Dimitris Yenethli, President of the Cyprus Association of Familial Amyloid Polyneuropathy Patients and Friends (TTR-FAP)
Dimitris Yenethli was born in 1992, in Limassol and he originates from the village of Pachna, where he spent part of his early childhood.
He graduated from Polemidia Lyceum and after serving in the 186 Artillery unit, he studied Business Administration at the Cyprus College.
Yenethli had been a track and field athlete since 16 and excelled in the Hammer Throw, representing Cyprus at national, Greek and international level.
He was diagnosed with Familial Amyloid Polyneuropathy at just 20, the earliest diagnosis ever, forcing him to give up the sports career he loved so much.
He travelled for treatment to Birmingham UK, where he underwent liver transplant at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Returning to Cyprus, having experienced many difficulties due to transplant complications, he took it upon himself to become involved in charity contribution to the patients movement.
Initially he coordinated a support group for patients with Familial Amyloid Polyneuropathy, in seeking to implement new treatments and then took on the establishment of the Cyprus Association of Familial Amyloid Polyneuropathy Patients and Friends (TTR-FAP), being initially elected as its Secretary.
Under the new Executive Board three years later, he was elected as President, a position he presently holds.
He represents the Association at the Cyprus Federation of Patients Associations and the Executive Board of the National Alliance of Rare Diseases, where he holds the position of Treasurer.
He was also appointed member of the Health Ministry’s National Committee of Rare Diseases, where he represents the patients.
He is engaged to Andriana Constandinou and works on a part time basis for MDA CYPRUS.
In his little spare time, Dimitris is dealing with folklore art, and he loves particularly the music and dance tradition of Cyprus and other areas in Greece.
